The Calls Map
Officer-initiated records, an officer logging Code 6 at a scene or a traffic stop, are 53.1% of the file citywide. 3,025,845 calls carry a reporting district and can be mapped; the rest are invisible here, and Code 6 is especially likely to arrive without one, so the map understates officer activity. The 999 raw radio codes are grouped into nine families by code prefix, which is our grouping rather than an official LAPD classification. Calls measure willingness to contact the police, not what happens in a place.
