A week of international flights at LAX

Every scheduled international departure and arrival, a typical week in July 2025. The map is centered on Los Angeles: distance from the middle is true, so every flight path is a straight line and every plane sits at its real fraction of the way. Daylight is real for the moment shown, and it is the whole explanation for the counter on the right.

Measured: the routes, the airlines, how many flights each flew, how many people were on them and how long they take, from BTS T-100, July 2025. Modeled: the time of day, and which of a route's flights carried its month's passengers. T-100 counts by month, not by clock, so departure times are back-solved from the arrival banks each region really uses, and every flight on a route carries that route's average load. No flight here was observed.
