Roll Call

The Basin

Los Angeles doesn't publish complete attendance records. This is derived and built from the roll calls themselves during the full council meetings, committee meetings, the Metro board, the Mayor's seat on the LAHSA commission and the council seat on the South Coast AQMD board, for all fifteen members and the Mayor.

Source & Method: Floor attendance is derived from the City Clerk’s vote system, which records all fifteen seats as present or absent on every roll call back to 2003. Committee attendance is derived from the journals published at lacity.primegov.com, which name the members present and the members absent on each item; those begin in 2021. Metro comes from the agency’s Legistar system, whose vote rows carry an explicit absence. The Mayor’s seat on the LAHSA commission comes from LAHSA’s own minutes; the agency stopped posting those as standalone documents after June 2025, so the roll calls since then were read out of the draft minutes.

Committee margin of error. About a fifth of committee vote lines record only a count — four ayes against a roster of five — naming nobody, so the absence is real but cannot be attributed. Those lines are excluded, and they carry an implied absence rate more than twice that of the lines that can be attributed. Committee attendance is therefore reported no lower than it truly was. Journals are also posted for roughly seven in ten committee meetings that were actually held.
